NEWS AT WHEELER ISLAND LAND COMPANY
2006-2007 Opener Delayed One Week
The 2006-2007 Duck Season opener at Wheeler Island was delayed due to last minute field work to secure one of our neighbors club. WILC in conjunction with DWR donated 5,000 cu. yards of soil in an effort to finally close the breach at a neighboring club in RD 2130. Because of the work necessary to move this amount of soil from the two clubs Wheeler wasn't able to initiate it's flood up until Wednesday, October 18th. Even then all of our flood gates won't be opened until the next week. Because of the help by WILC it was determined by the Board of Directors to postpone our opened by one week.

Year End Storm Damages WILC
On Friday, December 30, 2005 Wheeler Island as well as our neighboring clubs were hit by a double whammy. The recent storms in Northern California coupled with the unusually warm weather created a large runoff of water through the Delta. That coupled with higher tides and winds created a very serious situation for the levees around Wheeler Island and our neighboring clubs on the Suisun Marsh. The tides and 50 mph winds on Sunday, January 1, 2006 created serious overtopping of over 1000' of our levees from the river. The water came over the rocks into the condos flooding several of the rooms and eroding a good portion of the road. The overtopping of the levees back cut 1/3 of our levees in several locations. Sandbag and tarp crews worked over the January 7th and 8th weekend covering the exposed areas in anticipation of the high tides expected towards the later part of the month.
